Development through CIM
The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) are a globally recognised marketing organisation who provide a unique suite of qualifications for marketing exponents at every stage of their development. The CIM Introductory Certificate in Marketing is an ideal qualification for those who wish to learn more about the job and whether or not it would provide the right choice to achieve their goals. Open to all, regardless of previous experience, the course offers an essential grounding which combines practical knowledge with marketing theory for application when the candidate returns to the workplace.
Requiring 200 committed study hours in addition to tutor led learning, the syllabus includes 2 units; Unit 1, What is Marketing, and Unit 2, Understanding Customer Relationships. Evaluation and assessment is through a multiple choice examination and a written project consisting of a number of short work based tasks. Exams for each unit will cost from £55 with additional charges for tuition which can be found by contacting CIM directly. The candidate will also be required to be an Affiliate of CIM which carries an annual fee of £140; this is a common factor for the study of all CIM qualification courses.
The CIM Professional Certificate in Marketing has been designed for those involved in tactical marketing who are seeking progression. Delivering a wide range of applications from an in depth knowledge of understanding the stakeholder to the collection and use of analytical data, the qualification is ideal for those at the level of marketing assistant or junior marketer or for those in a support role.
Students will be expected to commit to 400 hours of study as the course is of a comparable standard to the first year of a Foundation Degree. They must also be in possession of any of the following to be eligible for inclusion:
- A general Bachelors or Masters Degree.
- The CIM Introductory Certificate to Marketing to Level 2 or 3.
- An NVQ or SVQ in Marketing to Level 3 or in any subject to Level 4.
- An International Baccalaureate to NVQ Level3 or above.
- Business or marketing experience.
Comprising 4 units: Marketing Essentials, Assessing the Marketing Environment, Marketing Information and Research and Stakeholder Marketing (all worth 10 credits each), the course will be assessed through two 3 hour examinations and written work based projects and assignments. Costs for the course, not including tuition fees, are charged from £70 per unit.
The Level 6 qualification, CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing, is intended for those individuals working with responsibility at an operational level and has a syllabus which includes the planning, implementation and measurement of marketing activities and understanding how marketing decisions will impact on the surrounding business functions. The course is targeted primarily at those in an executive or development role, account managers or brand and product managers.
Carrying 4 units: Marketing Planning Processes, Delivering Customer Value through Marketing, Managing Marketing and Project Management in Marketing (each worth 15 credits), students have a requirement to 600 hours of study and will be assessed through a pre-viewed case study examination and work based projects and assignments. The costs for the qualification course are from £80 per unit and entry requirements include:
- Experience in a marketing management role OR
- The CIM Professional Certificate in Marketing studied from the 2002 or 2008 syllabus OR
- A Bachelors or Masters Degree in Marketing.
For those who wish to demonstrate their specialist skills and knowledge across a broad scope of marketing applications, the CIM Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing teaches how to influence and manage strategies at the highest operational level.
Requiring 600 hours of study and comprising 2 stages of 4 units which include topics such as Emerging Themes, Analysis and Decisions, Marketing Leadership and Decisions, and Managing the Corporate Reputation, the course is assessed through a previously seen case study examination and a comprehensive series of work based projects and assignments. Costs for the qualification start from £90 per unit, exclusive of tuition fees.
